Hapori Community Connect

Katoa Connect: Hapori Community Connect

Hapori Community Connect was a digital inclusion programme created to help individuals and whānau build the confidence, skills, and access needed to participate in an increasingly digital world.

Delivered by Katoa Connect Trust in partnership with Chorus New Zealand, the programme focused on supporting communities experiencing digital exclusion and strengthening digital capability where it was needed most.

About the programme

Hapori Community Connect was an advanced foundational digital skills programme designed to support people who had limited access to digital technology, connectivity, or learning opportunities.

The programme provided practical, hands-on support to help learners develop the skills needed to engage confidently with online services, education, communication tools, and everyday digital tasks.

The programme focused on:

  • Building strong foundational digital skills

  • Supporting long-term digital confidence and participation

  • Improving access to online information, services, and opportunities

  • Reducing barriers created by digital exclusion

  • Strengthening community connection and engagement

  • Supporting equitable access to digital learning opportunities

With a strong focus on equity, the programme prioritised Māori and Pacific learners while remaining inclusive of all communities experiencing digital disadvantage.

Through the commitment of learners, communities, and partner organisations, Hapori Community Connect supported more than 100 learners and demonstrated the positive impact that digital inclusion can have on individuals, whānau, and communities.

Although the programme has now concluded, its legacy continues through the confidence, skills, and connections developed by those who participated.
