Rangatahi AI Experience

Rangatahi AI Experience introduces young people to the opportunities, challenges, and future possibilities of artificial intelligence.

Delivered in partnership with Tōnui Collab, this pilot programme helped rangatahi explore emerging technologies in a practical, engaging, and culturally relevant way. Through hands-on learning and real-world discussions, participants gained confidence using AI while developing skills that will support their future education, employment, and participation in a rapidly changing digital world.

 

About the programme

Rangatahi AI Experience is an AI literacy programme designed to help young people build the knowledge and skills needed to understand and engage with artificial intelligence.

The programme combines practical activities, guided learning, and discussions about how AI is shaping everyday life, education, work, and society. Participants explore AI tools, learn how to use them responsibly, and gain a stronger understanding of the opportunities and ethical considerations that come with emerging technologies.

The programme focuses on:

  • Building foundational AI literacy and digital confidence

  • Exploring how artificial intelligence is used in everyday life

  • Developing practical skills using AI tools and platforms

  • Encouraging critical thinking and problem-solving

  • Understanding AI ethics, privacy, and responsible use

  • Inspiring curiosity about future learning and career pathways

Alongside technical knowledge, participants strengthen important life skills such as communication, collaboration, creativity, and digital citizenship.

More than 60 rangatahi took part in the programme, leaving with greater confidence, practical knowledge, and a deeper understanding of how emerging technologies may shape their futures.
