Real impact, real people

Behind every programme is a story. These are the experiences of learners who have gained confidence, built new skills, and found new ways to connect with the world around them.

Referral Partner: Falelalaga Limited

Falelalaga is an incredible group of women who meet weekly to weave together and support one another within their community.

Stepping away from their weaving and into the world of Chromebooks was a completely new experience for many of them, and while it was initially challenging, the group embraced the opportunity with enthusiasm and determination.

For most participants, this was their very first time using a Chromebook. Over the course of the programme, they gained confidence in navigating technology and exploring digital tools that can support everyday life and cultural learning.

A standout highlight for the group was learning how to use Google Translate and ChatGPT. While many had only previously heard the term “AI,” they are now confidently using these tools for translations, photos, cultural learning, and discovering new ways technology can support their interests and creativity.

It has been inspiring to see the group encourage one another, step outside of their comfort zones, and achieve so much in such a short time.

Awesome work, ladies. Your willingness to learn and grow has been truly inspiring!

Throughout the programme, Mike gained confidence in using digital technology and explored many new tools and features. For Mike, however, the true highlight was learning how to video call his grandson in England- something that has helped him stay connected with family across the world.

Success Stories: Michael standing proud with his certificate with CEO for Mai Lighthouse- Robyn Driver.

Mike shared that he thoroughly enjoyed the programme, not only for the learning opportunities but also for the friendships and connections made along the way.

Well done, Mike. We are incredibly proud of your progress and achievements!

Patricia Edwards

Meet Patricia, a participant whose journey has been both inspiring and rewarding. Patricia’s daughter encouraged her to join the programme, believing it would be a great opportunity for her mum to learn new skills and build confidence with technology.

Success Stories: Patricia Edwards

Patricia with her sister Celia, who also did the programme – well done ladies!

On her first day, Patricia arrived unsure of what to expect and admitted that she doubted whether she was “too old” for this type of programme. However, over the course of four sessions, Patricia’s confidence and enthusiasm grew tremendously.

Today, Patricia is incredibly proud of herself for stepping outside of her comfort zone and giving the programme a go. Her favourite part has been learning how to download apps and being able to enjoy playing her online games independently.

Patricia’s journey is a wonderful reminder that it is never too late to learn something new.
